Watchdog Uganda published a profile of Gen. Moses Ali following his death on 18 July 2026, reporting that the Ugandan military officer and politician died aged 87. The outlet described him as one of the country’s longest-serving public figures, with a career spanning the army, rebel-era peace processes, cabinet and Parliament. It listed his birth date as 5 April 1939, identified him as a Ugandan, married, an NRM politician, and the longtime representative of Adjumani West County in Adjumani District.

According to Watchdog Uganda, Ali attended schools including Erepi Church of Uganda Primary School, Church of Uganda Junior Secondary School and Old Kampala Secondary School before undertaking military training in Israel and later attending Staff College in Camberley, United Kingdom. The profile also says he obtained legal and security-related qualifications, including a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University, a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre and a master’s degree in Intelligence Studies from American Military University.

The report says Ali joined the Uganda Army in the 1960s, rose from second lieutenant to four-star general, and at one point commanded the Uganda Paratrooper School. It also notes that he held senior roles in the 1970s and later led the Uganda National Rescue Front, which signed a peace agreement with the National Resistance Movement government.

In politics, Watchdog Uganda says Ali served in several ministerial posts, including youth, tourism, internal affairs, disaster preparedness and refugees, and also held the offices of First and Second Deputy Prime Minister at different times.
