Private Schools Sweep Lira PLE Mock as Division One Scores Soar

Private primary schools in Lira City posted the strongest results in the 2026 Primary Leaving Examination mock assessment released on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Lira Primary School. According to Dokolo Post, City Parents Primary School–Anai, Global View Primary School–Kitgum and Saving Grace Annex Primary School each recorded a 100% Division One pass rate, with all candidates in the top division. Several other private schools also reported high shares of Division One performance, while some public schools lagged behind.

The report said the mock involved 6,470 candidates from 118 primary schools, up from 5,311 the previous year. Of those schools, 94 were in Lira City and 24 came from outside the city. The candidates included 3,091 boys and 3,349 girls. Overall, Division Two accounted for the largest share of results, while Division One and Division Four were tied at 14.9% each. The article also noted that 5.9% of candidates were in Division U and 2.7% in Division X.

Lira City Education Officer Canon Jane Obeny praised headteachers, teachers and organisers for what she described as a professional assessment aligned closely with Uganda National Examinations Board standards. She also urged stronger coordination among districts and called on schools that had not subscribed to the mock to come forward so they could be engaged. Obeny warned against misconduct by teachers, including examination malpractice and alcohol use, and encouraged schools to use the remaining weeks before national exams to support weaker learners.

Senior Inspector of Schools Omara Tom Ronald said the results were an improvement on the previous assessment and should help schools identify areas needing attention ahead of the November national examinations.
