The New York Post reported that President Donald Trump hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers at the White House on Thursday for a Rose Garden ceremony celebrating the team’s 2025 World Series championship. During the event, Trump drew laughs from the players when he turned to Japanese stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto and asked which of them was the better pitcher, according to the report.

The visit marked a high-profile stop in Washington for the Dodgers during an off-day on a nine-game road trip. Trump spoke for nearly 20 minutes about the club’s season and its World Series victory, which the Post described as coming in a Game 7 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Ohtani also shook hands with the president during the ceremony.

Several Dodgers were not present, including Mookie Betts, Kiké Hernandez and reliever Edgardo Henriquez, the Post reported. Betts had previously indicated he was unlikely to attend because of family reasons. Dodgers owner Mark Walter presented Trump with a No. 47 jersey and a championship ring during the White House event.

The Post noted that the team’s visit had been uncertain earlier in the year because scheduling issues prevented a White House stop during the Dodgers’ season-opening road trip, which included a series against the Washington Nationals.
