President Museveni Meets Spanish Student Volunteers, Commends Their Community Service

Watchdog Uganda reported that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni hosted 33 Spanish student volunteers at State House, Entebbe, after they completed a community outreach mission in Gomba District. The students were described as being on their fourth annual volunteering visit to Uganda, where they spent several weeks working with vulnerable communities.

According to the report, the volunteers’ activities included helping construct school facilities, supporting access to clean water and visiting vulnerable households. The outlet said the programme has received support from President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni. Dr. Harris Kirumira Kalule, director of Kelim Foundation, which coordinates the initiative locally, thanked the First Family and said the students’ work contributed to education, water access and household welfare.

During the meeting, Museveni used the occasion to discuss government priorities, including moving more Ugandans into commercial production and expanding the country’s tax base. Watchdog Uganda reported that he cited Gomba’s increasing number of commercial farmers as a sign that wealth creation efforts are taking root. He also linked Uganda’s stability to a political approach that emphasizes shared national and African interests over ethnic or identity-based divisions.

The report said Museveni advised young people to practice discipline, build stable families and avoid destructive habits. Speaking for the volunteers, Lady Carmen Sillero thanked the government for hosting the delegation and for assistance including transport and security, which she said helped the group reach schools and communities during the outreach.
