Power Vandals Steal Shs7.5 Million Worth of Conductors in Kasese

Nile Post reported that police in Uganda’s Rwenzori East Region have opened investigations into the theft of electricity conductors valued at Shs7.5 million from the Kasese–Fort Portal transmission line in Kasese District. The incident reportedly happened during the night of July 17–18, 2026, at Kikura Village in Mubuku Town Council, where unknown suspects allegedly cut and removed about 360 metres of 120mm² conductor wire.

According to the report, another 240 metres of conductor was left hanging on the damaged line, and six electricity poles were affected. The matter was reported to Hima Police Division by Ibrahim Sseremba, identified as the Network Technical Officer for the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited in Kasese. Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said officers visited the scene, recorded the damage and began inquiries.

Police believe the latest case may be connected to an earlier act of vandalism on the same power line reported on July 13, 2026. Investigators suspect the vandals returned to continue cutting the line from the point where the previous attack had stopped. Maate said police plan to work with UEDCL and local leaders, while increasing routine patrols along the affected corridor because of the repeated attacks.

The case matters because vandalism of electricity infrastructure can disrupt supply, create repair costs and undermine public services and business activity in affected areas. Nile Post reported that police are seeking to identify and arrest the perpetrators and recover the stolen conductors, while urging residents to report suspicious activity around power installations.
