Pollar Awich receives Ntare School's highest honour

Nile Post reported that Maj (Rtd) Pollar Awich, the National Resistance Movement’s Director of External Affairs, has received Ntare School’s Order of the Lion during the school’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, held under the theme “The Lion Roars.” The award was described as the school’s highest and rarest honour, given to old boys whose service is seen as reflecting Ntare’s values.

According to the report, Awich was among three alumni added to the roll of honourees this year. The others were Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, identified by Nile Post as Minister of Internal Affairs, and Prof. Charles Kwesiga, executive director of the Uganda Industrial Research Institute and chairperson of the Ntare School Board of Governors. Earlier recipients cited in the article include President Yoweri Museveni, Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and the late Eriya Kategaya.

Nile Post said Awich is a former Ntare student who served as a kadogo in the National Resistance Army before rising to Major in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces. The report also notes that he later worked in law, served as a United Nations human rights expert and judge in Geneva, and has twice chaired the Ntare School Old Boys Association.

The recognition matters because it places Awich within a small group of alumni publicly associated with Ntare School’s legacy as it marks 70 years. The report links the award to his public service, continued involvement with the old boys’ network, and support for initiatives including Ntare School Rwanda.
