Police Track Owori's Stolen Phone, Arrest Two

Police in Uganda say they have arrested two people suspected of dealing in stolen mobile phones and recovered 137 phones and other electronic items as they investigate the killing of SC Villa captain David Owori. According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the breakthrough came after investigators traced an iPhone 14 Pro Max that was reportedly taken from Owori during the attack.

The suspects were identified as Bashir Munyaneza, also known as Jemo, and Samuel Magoba. Police said the recovery operation turned up four bags of suspected stolen phones, including large numbers of iPhones and Samsung handsets, plus iPads, SIM cards, phone parts and other belongings. Investigators are now trying to determine whether the items are tied to other theft cases and whether more people were involved in the network.

Owori, 27, died after injuries sustained in an attack by suspected thugs. SC Villa announced his death after he had been admitted to Case Clinic in critical condition, and club officials said police had already been alerted as part of the wider investigation. The case has drawn attention because Owori was a prominent player for the Kampala club and had recently featured in its title-winning Uganda Premier League campaign.

The report also comes amid broader concern in Uganda about violent attacks and mob justice. While police continue to focus on the criminal inquiry, the club and football community are mourning the loss of a player described by SC Villa as a key figure in its recent success.
