Police Tighten Security Ahead of Kabaka’s 33rd Coronation Anniversary Celebrations

Nile Post reports that Uganda Police have announced heightened security for the Kabaka of Buganda’s 33rd Coronation Anniversary celebrations, scheduled to take place tomorrow at Watoto Church in Bweyogerere. Organisers say preparations for the annual cultural event have been completed, with activities held ahead of the main celebration already concluded.

According to the report, Joseph Kawuki, the chairperson of the organising committee and Buganda Kingdom Minister for Local Government, addressed journalists at Bulange, Mengo, and asked attendees to arrive early to help reduce traffic delays. He also urged the Kabaka’s subjects to observe time and follow instructions from security teams during the event.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, speaking for the Uganda Police Force, said security measures had been arranged to protect participants. He asked members of the public to cooperate with officers, while advising parents and guardians to closely monitor children because of the large crowds expected. Nile Post also reported that Captain Hawa Nassimbwa of the Kabaka’s Protection Unit said personnel were ready to maintain order and respond to any disruption.

The celebrations will be held under the theme, “Let Us Be Courageous in Preserving Our Heritage,” and are expected to be broadcast live on several media platforms. The Kabaka’s coronation anniversary is a major event on Buganda Kingdom’s cultural calendar, drawing kingdom officials, subjects and well-wishers, which makes crowd control, traffic management and coordinated security central to the day’s organisation.
