The Associated Press reported that Seattle police are searching for at least one additional suspect after gunfire broke out Sunday evening at the Bite of Seattle food festival near the Space Needle, killing three people and injuring at least four others, including a toddler. The shooting happened around 6 p.m. in the closing hours of the event at Seattle Center, a major public gathering area beneath one of the city’s best-known landmarks.

Police initially described two suspected shooters, but AP reported Monday that investigators now believe at least three people were involved. A 15-year-old suspect has been arrested, while a 19-year-old described by police as another shooter died at the scene. Authorities said they are still looking for “at least one other unknown suspect.” Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis said Sunday night that officials did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public.

Nicole Powell, the Seattle Police Department’s assistant chief of investigations, said Monday that investigators believe the violence may have involved gangs, with two groups firing at each other. In juvenile court, the arrested 15-year-old waived an initial appearance, and a judge ordered the teen held in juvenile detention while authorities investigate possible firearms violations and first-degree assault. The King County prosecutor’s office said it expected to receive the case from police Wednesday for a charging decision.
