Police retrace Moses Matovu’s final hours from bar to death scene

Police in Kampala on Saturday conducted a reconstruction of the events leading to the death of Afrigo Band legend Moses Matovu, taking the two main suspects, Vincent Nsamba and Rose Tusiime, back to locations police say were linked to the incident. According to The Observer, the exercise began at Rujumbura Bar in Kibuli and continued to Tusiime’s rented room in Market Zone B before moving to the area where Matovu’s vehicle was parked when the confrontation allegedly turned fatal.

The reconstruction was carried out under heavy security, with police and military personnel deployed and some roads sealed off in Kibuli. Detectives recorded Tusiime’s account in writing and on video as they tried to piece together the sequence of events and compare the suspects’ explanations with physical evidence. Police said the process was meant to test statements, measure distances and clarify the positions of the people involved. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said similar exercises had also been carried out in Nansana as investigators continued gathering evidence.

Police say Matovu, 77, had attended a farewell event at Sheraton Gardens before later going to Rujumbura Bar and then to Tusiime’s room in the early hours of Thursday, September 24. The preliminary account says Nsamba later arrived, and a confrontation followed that left Matovu with a fatal head injury. The two suspects were returned to Natete police station afterward and remain in custody while investigations continue.

Local leaders in Kibuli told The Observer that Nsamba was known in the area and had previously worked for Matovu as a casual labourer. More details are expected as police complete the inquiry.
