Police Recover Suspected Stolen Cattle in Kassanda, Search for Suspect

Nile Post reported that police in Kassanda District recovered two heifers suspected to have been stolen after receiving information from a member of the public. The recovery was made during an early morning police operation on July 22, involving officers from Kikandwa Police Station in Kalwana Sub-county.

According to the report, Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said officers were deployed after intelligence suggested that Kinene Yusuf, a resident of Kikandwa Village, had brought cattle to his home at around 2am in circumstances considered suspicious. Police said the suspect ran away when he saw officers approaching, leaving the animals at the premises.

The recovered cattle were described by police as a black hornless heifer and a black-and-white heifer with short horns. One was reportedly found tied behind the suspect’s house, while the other was tied in a bush within the compound. Police believe, at this stage of inquiry, that the animals may have been stolen from either Gomba District or Kyenda in Mubende District, but investigations are still under way to confirm their origin.

Police are asking anyone who recently lost cattle matching the description to report to the Officer in Charge of Kikandwa Police Station with proof of ownership. The case comes amid wider police concern about livestock theft in parts of central Uganda, including the cattle corridor, where authorities have been relying on community tips and intelligence-led operations to support farmers and track suspected offenders.
