What the report says

Police in Kasese District are investigating the death of Thomas Mbalabahi, a 34-year-old builder whose body was found inside his home in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Council. According to Nile Post, the body was discovered on the night of August 29, 2026, after a man who had hoped to hire him went to look for him at his residence in Kyambogho Cell.

The report says Geoffrey Muhunga had first searched for Mbalabahi at Nyabugando Trading Centre, where he intended to engage him for plastering work. When he could not find him there, he went to the builder’s house, found the door open, and later saw him lying on the bed without responding. Muhunga then alerted neighbours and the local chairman, who reported the matter to Bwera Police Station.

A postmortem examination at Bwera Hospital mortuary indicated that Mbalabahi had been strangled, police said. Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said officers had opened inquiries to establish what happened and to identify anyone involved. Police also appealed to the public for information that could help with the investigation.

The case adds to ongoing concerns about violent crime in the region and highlights the role of local residents in helping police trace suspects and reconstruct the final movements of the deceased.
