Police Probe Alleged Forged Bank Slips at Lubega Nursing Institute

What the report says
Police in Iganga are investigating allegations of forged bank payment slips linked to Lubega Institute of Nursing and Health Professionals, with the probe centering on claims that about 90 students may have been involved. According to Nile Post, the case includes suspected forgery, uttering forged documents, obtaining money by false pretences and impersonation. The institution’s management reported the matter after students allegedly presented bank deposit slips that police believe were fake.
Busoga East Police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha said investigators are focusing on slips said to have been issued in the name of a man identified as Joshua Mwesigwa, who allegedly posed as a bank agent. Police said Mwesigwa has been arrested after reportedly being on the run for about two months, while two other suspects remain at large. Three student suspects have already been produced in court, and statements have been taken from school officials, parents and some affected students.
The issue gained wider attention after Bubulo East MP John Musila raised related concerns in Parliament, saying parents were being asked to pay fees twice. The institute denied that account and said the matter instead concerns students suspected of using forged slips, including Musila’s child, according to the school’s response. Police have recovered suspected forged documents for forensic analysis and are continuing the investigation. The case matters because it affects fee payments, student discipline and trust in school financial systems, especially in institutions that rely on bank-based tuition handling.
