Police officer hurt after Liverpool-Man City game

What the report says
Merseyside Police said a police officer was injured and 10 people were arrested after tensions spilled over following Liverpool’s Premier League match against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday. The game, which Manchester City won 3-0, took place in what police described as a heightened atmosphere around the rivalry.
According to the force, one man was detained on suspicion of assaulting a police constable after the match, and the officer suffered a serious facial injury before being taken to hospital. Police said the suspect was arrested on Anfield Road at about 18:30 BST and the officer is now recovering at home. Other arrests included five people on suspicion of chanting linked to football tragedies, one on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and assault, two for affray, and one for throwing items on to the pitch.
BBC Sport reported that this was City’s first match since the club was found guilty of 114 charges related to alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules. The article also described a hostile reception for City at Anfield, with boos inside the ground and protest-style messages from Liverpool supporters. Police and club authorities often monitor fixtures between major rivals closely because crowd tensions can rise before, during and after high-profile matches.
