Police link four suspects to series of aggravated robberies in Kampala

Police in Kampala say they have linked four suspects to a string of aggravated robberies, attempted robberies and attempted murders reported across the city. According to the Nile Post report, the men identified as Ssemanda Yasin alias Zanda, Jjingo Ramathan alias Rama, Kasumba Cohen alias Farouk and Musoke Eric are expected to appear before Mwanga II Chief Magistrates Court.

Investigators allege the group used motorcycles and pangas in attacks targeting people carrying significant amounts of money. The cases under review include a robbery reported on the Kasubi-Makerere-Kikoni Road, where police say a fuel station manager lost Shs25.8 million, and another on Kawaala Road in which a businessman allegedly lost Shs4.8 million, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, a bracelet and a silver chain. Police said one motorcycle believed to have been used in the Kasubi incident has been recovered.

The suspects are also said to be connected to robberies in Wampewo, Kiwatule, Ntinda, Kamwokya and Namugongo, as well as an alleged Shs620 million robbery involving Forex Bureau workers on Kampala Road and an attempted robbery of Shs27 million in Namugongo. ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, said the investigations point to a wider network, and police say some victims were injured during the attacks.

The report says six other suspects already on remand at Luzira Prison are due in court on separate production warrants as inquiries continue. Police said efforts are under way to arrest additional suspects and recover property they believe may be linked to the cases.
