What the report says

Police in Mityana District are investigating the suspected murder of 33-year-old Patience Ainembabazi, a businesswoman whose body was found in her rented home in Mizigo B Cell, North Ward, Busimbi Division, Mityana Municipality. According to Nile Post, officers believe she may have been killed by her husband, Salongo Mukiga, after a domestic disagreement. Mukiga was still being sought at the time of the report.

The case was reported to Mityana Police Station in the early hours of September 6, 2026, by Ronald Kizito, the chairperson of Mizigo B Cell. Police said neighbours were alerted by a foul smell coming from the locked house, prompting them to contact local leadership and, later, investigators. A homicide team from Mityana Central Police Station entered the two-room house through a window after finding the front door padlocked.

Detectives found Ainembabazi’s body in the sitting room with multiple suspected stab wounds, including injuries to the back, hands and neck. Police said a knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered from the mattress and blood samples were taken for forensic testing at the Government Analytical Laboratory. The body was taken to Mityana General Hospital for postmortem examination.

The investigation is ongoing, with police recording witness statements and appealing for information that could help locate Mukiga. The case highlights continuing concern over domestic violence and fatal relationship disputes, an issue police in Uganda and elsewhere often link to broader community safety and family protection challenges.
