Police Investigate Death of 19-Year-Old Maid in Kasese

What the report says
Police in Kasese are investigating the death of a 19-year-old domestic worker found at the home where she worked in Kamaiba Lower Cell, Central Division, Kasese Municipality. The deceased was identified as Sachesse Kabugho, a resident of the same area. According to Nile Post, the matter was reported to police on Monday, August 10, 2026, at around 8 p.m., after she was discovered dead.
Rwenzori East Region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said officers visited the scene, documented it, recorded witness statements and took the body to Kasese Municipal Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem. Police said preliminary inquiries showed Kabugho had been employed as a domestic worker at the home of Issa Kibirige, a 57-year-old driver who lives nearby, but the exact circumstances of her death have not yet been established.
A co-worker, Medrine Biira, told the publication that Kabugho seemed upset on Sunday night and into Monday, though she did not explain what was troubling her. Biira also said Kabugho had made a phone call shortly before the incident. The LC1 chairperson for Kamaiba Lower Cell, Halima Hamis, urged young people to seek guidance when facing difficulties, and police similarly appealed to people in distress to seek help from trusted sources.
The investigation remains open, and police said the postmortem is expected to help determine the cause of death. In general, such cases often require forensic and witness evidence before conclusions can be reached, but no official cause has been announced in this case.
