Police Dismiss Report of Imminent Cadet Recruitment

What the report says
Police in Uganda have denied reports that a cadet recruitment exercise is about to begin, saying no vacancy notice has been issued and no new intake has been announced. According to the Nile Post report, police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke made the clarification during the weekly media briefing on Monday, October 12, and said any genuine recruitment would first be published through an official advertisement.
Rusoke said the force is not currently recruiting cadets and has not expressed interest in doing so at this stage. The statement came after a New Vision report suggested recruitment could be imminent, which appears to have prompted interest among prospective applicants. Police urged the public to rely only on official communications from the force.
The report also placed the clarification in the context of recent police staffing activity. It noted that the latest regular recruitment cycle for probationary police constables began with an advert on March 10, 2025, and led to thousands of applicants, interviews and training. Those recruits completed training in 2026 and were passed out at a national ceremony in June.
More broadly, the piece said the police have previously discussed staffing shortages and the need for more officers, but stressed that such needs do not amount to a new recruitment drive. The distinction matters because police recruitment in Uganda can attract wide public attention, especially when social media or informal messages suggest openings before any official notice is released.
