Police Arrest Three More Suspects in Motorcycle Robbery Gang Probe

Kampala Metropolitan Police say they have arrested three more suspects in an investigation into a robbery gang accused of using motorcycles to target people carrying large sums of money. The latest arrests, made on September 28, bring the total number of people detained in the case to six, according to deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.

The suspects were identified by police as Kawooya Bashir, Kiwo Shamiru and Nuwamanya Derrick, also known as Akiram and Mavako. Officers said the three were found travelling on a motorcycle with registration number UMA 349NF, which has since been impounded. Police also said the suspects admitted involvement in a robbery near the American Embassy area in Nsambya on June 24, 2026, in which a Nigerian national was allegedly assaulted and robbed of Shs20 million. The case was reported at Kabalagala Police Station.

The three newly arrested suspects follow earlier arrests of Byanyima Sadic, Waibale Joseph and Kisongode Ivan, who are also under investigation. Police said five motorcycles have so far been impounded in connection with the operation. The investigation is continuing as detectives look for other alleged members of the group and assess whether they are linked to other robbery cases involving money carriers in Kampala.
