Police arrest suspect, recover two heifers in Ndejje cattle theft operation

What the report says
Police in Kampala Metropolitan Area say they have arrested one suspect and recovered two heifers and a vehicle during an operation linked to suspected cattle theft in Ndejje, Wakiso District. According to Nile Post, the action took place in Mirimu Zone, Ndejje Parish, in Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality after officers received intelligence that a vehicle, registration number UAM 175K, was being used to transport cattle believed to have been stolen.
The report says officers from Katwe Police Division intercepted the vehicle and found four men unloading the animals. Three of the suspects allegedly ran away, while one man, identified as Kakumba Amos of Matugga, was arrested. The recovered heifers and the vehicle were taken to Katwe Police Division as police continued their inquiries.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said preliminary findings suggest the suspects may be part of a wider group involved in stealing cattle from different areas and selling them in the Ndejje area. He said police are still looking for the men who escaped and are trying to establish the full reach of the alleged network.
The case highlights a broader concern about livestock theft and possible resale networks in central Uganda. As reported by Nile Post, police have asked members of the public to share any information that could help identify the suspects or trace additional stolen cattle. The allegations have not yet been tested in court.
