What the report says

Police in Nyendo, Masaka City, arrested a 20-year-old man after he was found at Gofrex Guest House with a schoolgirl, according to Nile Post. Masaka Regional Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye said the arrest followed a tip from a community member who reported that a man had entered the lodge with a school-going child. Officers from Nyendo Police Station responded, were told by guest house workers that the pair were in a room, and later took both into custody.

Police said the man reportedly tried to explain that the girl was his sister, while the girl gave different accounts about her age. The article says she first said she was 17, later said she was 18, and then indicated she was 15 when asked about her year of birth. Both were taken to Nyendo Police Station as investigations continued into how she ended up at the lodge and whether any offence was committed.

Kasirye said preliminary information suggested that both were residents of Sembabule District, while the girl had reportedly left a school in Mbarara District. He warned against sexual abuse of children and said police would treat such cases seriously.

The report also quoted local residents and officials calling for closer monitoring of lodges, stronger child-protection enforcement, and greater parental vigilance. In Uganda, authorities regularly warn about child exploitation and trafficking risks, but the specific circumstances in this case remain under police investigation.
