Police Arrest Five Suspects in Kassanda Double Murder,Coffee Robbery

Nile Post reports that police in Uganda’s Wamala Region have arrested five people in connection with a double murder and robbery in Kassanda District. The case stems from a July 2, 2026 attack at the home of a man identified as Mr. Lukwago in Lukira Village, Myanzi Sub-county, where armed assailants allegedly killed two farm workers and took seven bags of coffee along with an unspecified amount of cash.

The victims were named as Ssali Joseph, 48, and his wife, Mariza Regina. According to the report, residents led by Local Council I Chairperson Sulaiman Kakinda found Ssali’s body the day after the attack and reported the matter to Myanzi Police Station. Police later recovered Mariza Regina’s body on July 8 in nearby Kyaseta village, where it had been partly buried.

Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said investigators first arrested one suspect in Masaka City before tracing four others to Myanzi Sub-county. Nile Post identified the suspects as Joan Nakavuma, Kasumba Babangida, Meddy Nsereko alias Baamu Mukooki, Damian Kule, and John Yamulemye alias Doctor. Police said recovered exhibits include motorcycles believed to have been used to move attackers to and from the scene.

The arrests are being presented by police as a significant step in a case that alarmed the local community. Kigozi said the file will be reviewed by the Resident State Attorney for Kassanda before charges are sanctioned, while investigations continue into whether more people were involved.
