Police Arrest Car Dealer Over Shs12 Million Robbery in Luuka

Police in Luuka District have arrested a man they suspect of helping stage a robbery against a prospective vehicle buyer. According to Nile Post, the suspect, David Mutagubya, is accused of contacting a mechanic from Wakiso District and offering to help him find a second-hand car in Iganga before directing him to an isolated area in Bulanga Town Council.

The report says the incident happened on August 13, 2026, in Mawundo Mufuuwa Village and involved about five men, some of whom were allegedly armed with sticks and dressed in civilian clothes. Police said the victim, Lule Moses, was assaulted and forced to surrender about Shs12.2 million and a mobile phone. The attack ended after he raised an alarm, prompting members of the public to intervene and chase the alleged attackers away.

Busoga North police spokesperson Samson Lubega said residents managed to detain Mutagubya at the scene before handing him over to police. Officers later recovered the motorcycle said to have been used in the trip, while investigations continue into the other suspects and the possible wider network behind the robbery. The case highlights the risks of vehicle-buying arrangements that draw people to unfamiliar places, a point police have used to warn the public to be cautious when dealing with strangers.
