Police arrest 11 over aggravated robbery, rape in Wakiso

Watchdog Uganda reported that police in Nsangi Division have detained 11 people while investigating an aggravated robbery and rape case in Nakirama Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District. According to the report, police said the attack happened at about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, after an unidentified person allegedly entered a woman’s shop and attacked her with a knife.

Police said the attacker demanded money and threatened serious harm if the victim did not comply. The assailant allegedly raped the woman after the robbery and then fled. The survivor later made a report at Kikajo Police Post, prompting a response by Criminal Investigations Directorate detectives, scene-of-crime personnel and the Police Canine Unit.

The publisher reported that investigators processed what police described as a well-preserved scene. A police dog identified as TP 297 Sofia was introduced in the victim’s bedroom and followed a scent for about one kilometre to a nearby bar. Officers found more than 10 people there, reportedly intoxicated, and the dog indicated one person by sitting beside him. Police then arrested all 11 people at the bar for further scrutiny.

The suspects were being held at Kikajo Police Post as inquiries continued, according to Watchdog Uganda’s account of the police statement. Police said investigators are still working to establish the full circumstances and identify the principal offender. The case underscores the role of forensic and canine support in criminal investigations, while also requiring careful due process because the arrests were made during an ongoing inquiry and no court findings were reported.
