Poland opens terror probe into fire at drone factory

Poland has opened a terror-related investigation into a fire at a factory that makes drone components for Ukraine, according to Al Jazeera’s report from 31 August 2026. The prosecution office said the inquiry covers possible involvement of a foreign intelligence service and a terrorist offence linked to the deliberate use of incendiary materials at the WB Electronics site.

The fire broke out shortly after midnight at the WB Electronics factory in Skarzysko-Kamienna, south of Warsaw. Firefighters took about two hours to bring the blaze under control. Polish officials said the Internal Security Agency is assisting police, but they have not released further details, citing the sensitive nature of the case.

Al Jazeera reported that WB Electronics is a major Polish private defence company and a supplier of drone systems and related military equipment. Its products are used by the Polish and Ukrainian militaries, including the FlyEye and Warmate drones. The report also noted that Russia is widely suspected of sabotage activity in Europe targeting facilities connected to support for Ukraine, though no public attribution was made in this case.

The investigation comes amid heightened security concerns in Poland and other European states that back Ukraine, including recent incidents that officials have linked to possible Russian covert operations. Polish authorities have been increasing security spending and military capabilities in response to those concerns.
