Pochettino agrees US manager contract extension

Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to remain head coach of the United States men’s national team through 2030, according to BBC Sport. The former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea manager has been in charge since September 2024 and will continue after overseeing the team’s run to the last 16 at the 2026 World Cup, where the co-hosts were eliminated by Belgium.

BBC Sport reports that the new agreement goes beyond first-team duties. US Soccer said Pochettino and his staff will also have a wider role advising on the national-team pathway, youth development, coaching education and collaboration with professional leagues, along with other technical areas. The federation said the aim is to strengthen the men’s programme over time.

Pochettino said the discussions with US Soccer had shown him there is significant potential to improve the men’s team and the broader game in the country. He also said the aim is to make a lasting contribution that reaches beyond on-field results.

US Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone said the federation wants to keep investing in the culture Pochettino and his staff have created. In general, longer contracts in international football can signal a desire for continuity ahead of major tournaments, especially when a host nation is building toward the next World Cup cycle.
