PLU’s Mwesigye Announces 6.4 Million Endorsement Signatures for Gen. Muhoozi’s 2031 Presidential Bid

What the report says
Patriotic League of Uganda official Frank Mwesigye says the group has gathered 6.4 million endorsement signatures in support of its national chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, ahead of the 2031 presidential election. The figures were presented as part of PLU’s wider mobilisation effort, which the organisation says has been running for six weeks and uses both online submissions and physical endorsement books.
According to the account carried by Nile Post, the collection drive is being coordinated across Uganda and is aimed at building a much larger base of support over time. Mwesigye said the latest total puts the group closer to a self-set target of 20 million signatures by September 2027, while also suggesting a possible higher tally by early March next year. No independent verification of the totals was included in the report.
PLU also shared regional figures, saying the Northern Region has contributed the most signatures so far, followed by the Eastern, Western and Central regions. The organisation said its endorsement registers have been distributed across Uganda’s districts and villages to broaden participation.
The effort underscores the early political positioning around Muhoozi, who is the son of President Yoweri Museveni and a prominent figure in Uganda’s ruling-circle politics. As reported, the campaign is intended to strengthen support well before the 2031 vote, even as Uganda’s next general election is scheduled for 2026.
