What the report says

England and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has pleaded guilty to driving without due care or attention after an incident in Cheshire in April, according to BBC Sport Football. Court documents cited by the BBC say the 32-year-old was driving a blue Lamborghini Urus in Knutsford when he ignored a give-way sign at a junction on Toft Road, forcing two cars to brake sharply to avoid a collision before he drove away.

Police officer PC Cecil Ricardo, quoted in the court papers, said he then followed the car with lights and siren activated and observed it travelling above the 30mph limit on that stretch of road. The officer said Pickford pulled over after apparently noticing the police vehicle. The BBC reported that the case was heard at Warrington Magistrates' Court and has since been adjourned, with Pickford due to appear again at Chester Magistrates' Court on 7 December.

The BBC said Pickford asked to attend court in person to present mitigation. He has not been sentenced yet. Pickford is one of England's most established goalkeepers, with 92 international appearances and 336 games for Everton, and he has featured at recent World Cups and European Championship finals. The case matters because it involves a high-profile footballer and a driving offence that, according to the court account, could have caused a serious road traffic accident.
