One Mile at a Time reports that Philippine Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding with Boeing to acquire as many as 20 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, a planned wide-body order tied to the carrier’s fleet renewal. The proposed deal is expected to cover 15 firm aircraft and five options, with deliveries projected between 2031 and 2034 if the schedule holds. The agreement was announced around the opening of the Farnborough International Airshow.

The 787-10 is the largest Dreamliner model, offering high seat capacity and strong per-seat economics, though with less range than smaller 787 variants. According to the report, Philippine Airlines plans to deploy the aircraft on medium- and long-haul routes. The airline’s parent company leadership framed the order as part of a broader push to improve efficiency, customer experience and long-term sustainability while marking decades of ties with Boeing.

The report notes that this would be Philippine Airlines’ first Boeing order since 2007, after years in which Airbus became more prominent in its fleet. The airline currently operates a mix of Airbus A321s, A330s and A350s, along with Boeing 777-300ERs, and already has additional A321neo and A350-1000 aircraft on order.

The development matters because it points to another expansion and modernization phase for Philippine Airlines as it prepares to join the oneworld alliance. One Mile at a Time suggests the 787-10 could support high-volume routes from Manila and may eventually play a role in replacing older A330 or 777 aircraft, though the exact balance between growth and replacement remains unclear.
