PFF’s Nyanjura pays tribute to King Oyo, hails his environmental and agricultural legacy

The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has paid tribute to the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro, with party official Doreen Nyanjura praising him for his support for environmental conservation, modern agriculture, sports and faith. According to Nile Post, Nyanjura spoke at the PFF headquarters in Kampala after the monarch’s death, which has prompted mourning in the Tooro Kingdom and beyond.

Nyanjura singled out King Oyo’s environmental advocacy, saying he viewed conservation as a major part of the king’s legacy. She also recalled his connection to the Rwenzori Mountains, describing his climb to the summit as a notable example of his commitment to nature. The report says she presented him as a leader who used his influence to encourage Ugandans to protect the environment.

She also said the king consistently promoted modern farming as a route to better livelihoods, and that agriculture featured in Tooro’s development agenda. In addition, she remembered him as a supporter of sports and said his public image combined traditional leadership with practical community interests.

Nyanjura further described the monarch as deeply religious, saying he remained humble about his spiritual life despite holding the highest traditional office in Tooro. She offered condolences to the royal family and the people of Tooro. For context, King Oyo had long been regarded as one of Uganda’s best-known traditional leaders, and his death has broader significance because of the role he played in public life and cultural affairs.
