Peterborough appoint Forest Green boss Savage

What the report says
Peterborough United have appointed Forest Green Rovers manager Robbie Savage as their new head coach, BBC Sport Football reported. Savage succeeds Luke Williams at the Weston Homes Stadium after Williams was dismissed on 19 September, following a difficult start to the League One season that has left Peterborough near the bottom of the table.
According to BBC Sport, the former Wales international is taking on his first managerial job at an English Football League club. Savage, 51, previously managed Macclesfield before joining Forest Green in July last year. At Forest Green, he led the team to the National League play-offs last season, although they were eliminated before promotion. This campaign, the Gloucestershire club were sitting mid-table after 10 matches.
Peterborough have struggled for form and goals in the league, which helps explain the change in the dugout. BBC Sport’s coverage said Savage will begin his spell with a Vertu Trophy tie against Ipswich Town Under-21s on 6 October, before Peterborough return to league action away at Leicester City on 10 October. The move is notable because it gives Savage a chance to step up from non-league football to the EFL, while Peterborough are hoping for an immediate lift as they try to climb away from danger.
