The Daily Beast reported that the Pentagon’s public casualty database now separates some U.S. losses from President Donald Trump’s war with Iran into a new listing called “Overseas Operations,” raising questions about how the military is presenting the conflict’s toll. The outlet said four service members killed in Iranian strikes last week, along with wounded personnel, had disappeared from the database before reappearing Sunday under the new category, which is marked for casualties beginning July 7, 2026.

According to the Daily Beast, the database lists 14 deaths and 417 wounded under “Operation Epic Fury,” the name Trump gave the Iran operation launched on February 28. A separate “Overseas Operations” entry lists four deaths and 207 wounded. Taken together, the figures would amount to 18 dead and 624 wounded, though the article noted it was not immediately clear whether every wounded service member in the newer category was tied to the Iran conflict. The report also cited CNN as saying the updated figures included 140 additional wounded troops not previously reported.

Pentagon representatives Sean Parnell and Joel Valdez previously attributed missing entries to “temporary data disruptions,” according to the Daily Beast, but the article said no official explanation had been provided for the new categorization. The outlet also reported that the White House and Pentagon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Daily Beast linked the July 7 category date to a War Powers notification in which Trump reportedly argued a renewed conflict began that day after an April ceasefire. The four killed were identified as Army 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, Pvt. Isabella Gonzales and Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton.
