Peasants Party Suspends Secretary General Over Misconduct

What the report says
The National Peasants Party (NPP) has suspended its Secretary General, Sharif Nambale Ssentongo, while its disciplinary committee examines allegations of misconduct, mismanagement and failure to account for party resources. The action was set out in a suspension letter dated October 22, 2026, signed by National Executive Council Chairperson Elias Wamala. The party said the decision took effect immediately.
According to the report, the matter followed concerns raised during a National Consultative Council meeting on October 14. Party leaders allege that Ssentongo received voters’ registers from the Electoral Commission for the party ahead of the January 2026 presidential election but did not hand them over to headquarters. He is also accused of not accounting for resources received during the year and of creating internal divisions through his handling of party affairs.
The letter further alleges that he locked party offices, blocked members from accessing the premises, pursued contacts with members of other political parties without approval, and used abusive language toward colleagues. The party also says he failed to attend a disciplinary committee sitting after being summoned. He has been instructed to surrender party documents, office property and equipment as the investigation continues.
The suspension matters because it points to leadership tensions inside the NPP and shows how party organizations can respond to disputes through internal disciplinary processes. The letter was also copied to the Electoral Commission in Kampala.
