Pearl Bank Brings Banking Services Closer to Lwemiyaga Residents

Pearl Bank has partnered with Lwemiyaga MP Rtd. Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Rwashande to expand banking access for residents of Lwemiyaga in Sembabule District, with services planned for Ntusi Town. According to Nile Post, Rwashande has offered land for the initiative, which is intended to make financial services easier to reach for farmers, traders and other people in the area.

The report says the effort is aimed at helping residents save money securely, access loans and better use government income-support programmes such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga. Rwashande said many residents currently travel long distances to Masaka and Mubende for banking, and argued that a local branch would better serve households whose livelihoods depend on farming and livestock.

He also linked the project to reducing reliance on money lenders and to cutting post-harvest waste by improving access to finance for storage and value addition. Pearl Bank representative Simon Peter Nsobya said the institution would first introduce a super agent, an ATM and its Wendi service before moving toward a full branch. He also said the bank would work with parish-level agents and provide training.

Residents welcomed the plan, saying it would save them time and help them participate more easily in local economic activity. More broadly, the development reflects a common challenge in rural Uganda, where limited access to formal banking can make it harder for communities to borrow, save and connect to public programmes.
