Parliament Staff Face Validation Exercise Starting Monday

What the report says
Parliament in Uganda is preparing to subject more than 300 staff members to a four-day validation exercise beginning Monday, according to Nile Post. The process is being led by the Public Service Commission and is intended to check whether employees were recruited in line with the required procedures and whether any irregularities can be identified. The exercise is expected to cover staff across several departments, including the Office of the Clerk to Parliament and other senior offices.
Nile Post reported that the plan was announced by Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth during Thursday’s sitting, when he said Parliament would scrutinize the recruitment records of all employees, including Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesigwe. The validation is to be handled by officials from the Public Service Commission, led by Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Lucy Nakyobe.
According to the schedule described in the report, the review will start with offices linked to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, then move through other administrative, communications, finance and logistics units before concluding with the Sergeant-at-Arms, clerks and the Parliamentary Budget Office. Staff are expected to present appointment letters, identification documents and academic certificates. Nile Post also said the exercise may disrupt some committee work, with a possibility that certain meetings are moved to afternoon sessions. The report did not indicate that wrongdoing has already been proven; rather, the exercise is meant to verify compliance and clarify the status of appointments.
