Parliament Interdicts Communications Chief Chris Obore and Six Senior Officials Over Multi-Billion Corruption Scheme

Kampala-based Watchdog Uganda reported on August 5, 2026, that Parliament of Uganda has interdicted its Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Chris Obore, together with six other senior officials, after a directive from the Inspectorate of Government. The move came after the officials were formally presented before the Anti-Corruption Court on corruption-related allegations.

According to the report, the accused face charges including embezzlement, money laundering, and causing financial loss. The named officials are Daniel Adilo, Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Okwi Emmanuel Emuron, Vincent Otebata, Leonard Okema, and Stella Itute, alongside Obore. Watchdog Uganda said six of the suspects are on remand at Luzira Prison, while Itute remained at large at the time of publication.

The article says prosecutors allege that about Shs27.2 billion intended for parliamentary donations and corporate social responsibility activities was siphoned off. It attributes more than Shs14.6 billion to Adilo, and more than Shs5.2 billion each to Obore and Otebata.
