Parents Urged to Shield Candidates From Family Troubles

What the report says
Parents and guardians of candidates at Lira City Comprehensive Secondary School have been asked to keep domestic conflicts away from children preparing for Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) exams. School director Owino Jacob said family disagreements should be resolved by adults, warning that exposing learners to such tensions could distract them during a critical revision period.
The appeal came during a dedication prayer held on October 3, 2026, for 144 candidates — 97 Senior Four students and 47 Senior Six students — ahead of the national examinations. Owino also urged parents to provide scholastic materials, clear any outstanding school-fee balances, and support the school’s preparations so candidates can sit their exams with the needed requirements in place. He further prayed for the students’ health and protection from illness during the exam season.
Head teacher Francis Okello thanked parents for paying fees and guiding their children, saying this had helped the school maintain discipline. Guest of honour Santa Ayo Angela, the councillor for Lira City East Division A and chairperson of the council’s Finance, Planning and Administration committee, also called on parents to settle balances and encourage confidence in the learners. She cautioned against frequent school changes and messages discouraging fee payment, while urging candidates to stay disciplined and focused.
A PTA representative, Olet Charles, and two students who spoke at the event said the learners were ready for the exams and intended to respond to the support from home and school with strong results.
