Fox Business reported that the Carolina Panthers and Bank of America have reached a long-term extension of the naming-rights agreement for the team’s stadium in Charlotte, keeping the venue branded as Bank of America Stadium, commonly called “The Bank.” The extension is tied to a broader plan described as totaling more than $1.3 billion in stadium upgrades and team-related private investment.

According to the report, Panthers owner and Tepper Sports & Entertainment chairman David Tepper framed the agreement as a continuation of the organization’s relationship with Bank of America and a step toward making the stadium district a larger sports, entertainment and community destination. Bank of America Chair and CEO Brian Moynihan also emphasized the company’s long connection to Charlotte and said the stadium plays a role in bringing visitors and economic activity to the region.

The planned renovation work at the roughly 30-year-old venue includes new indoor-outdoor gathering areas, a social patio on the 500 level with views of Uptown Charlotte, larger scoreboards and displays, improved seating choices, premium areas and upgraded technology. Fox Business also reported that renderings show exterior changes, including new materials and an illuminated crown intended to be part of the Charlotte skyline.

For context, the stadium opened in 1996 as Ericsson Stadium before Bank of America acquired naming rights in 2004. The bank’s relationship with the Panthers dates to the franchise’s early years, including former CEO Hugh McColl’s role in helping the Carolinas land an NFL expansion team.
