Pandur joined Rangers after Hull planned new number one

BBC Sport reports that new Rangers goalkeeper Ivor Pandur says he left Hull City despite the chance to be involved in the club’s Premier League return because he was told Hull intended to recruit another first-choice goalkeeper this summer. Pandur, 26, joined Rangers as Jack Butland moved the other way to Hull, linking up with manager Sergej Jakirovic.

Pandur said Hull’s Croatian manager wanted him to stay and play, but that the club had informed him of plans to bring in a goalkeeper with Premier League experience. He made 48 appearances last season as Hull won promotion through the play-offs, and said he remained proud of his time at the club even though the decision prompted his move.

The goalkeeper also told BBC Sport that Rangers had shown interest in him before his 2024 move from Fortuna Sittard to Hull, and that contact continued during the season. When the formal approach came, he said the deal was completed quickly. Pandur played at Ibrox for the first time in Wednesday’s pre-season win over St Etienne and described the experience positively.

His arrival comes as former Rangers and Scotland goalkeeper Allan McGregor returns to the club as goalkeeping coach. Pandur said McGregor’s presence was another attraction, and added that he had spoken to current or former Rangers-linked players John Lundstram, Kieran Dowell and Antonio Colak before deciding. He said he understood the pressure and expectation at Rangers, including the demand for trophies.
