Pan-Africanists to Honour Raila Odinga Through Annual Lecture

What the report says
Ugandan Pan-Africanists are planning a commemoration of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga on October 15, 2026, at Serena Hotel in Uganda, according to Nile Post. The event is described as marking the first anniversary of Odinga’s death and will focus on his role in African unity, democratic governance, freedom, and regional cooperation.
The organisers, led by Pan-African Global Business chairman Captain Mike Mukulu, say they want the gathering to bring together participants from Uganda, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and other African countries. Mukulu said the tribute is intended to encourage reflection on Odinga’s links with regional leaders and on the broader Pan-African struggle for self-determination and integration.
Beyond the one-day commemoration, the group plans to establish an annual lecture at Serena Hotel. The lecture would examine the lives and contributions of major African figures and help younger people learn about the historical struggles behind Pan-Africanism. Mukulu said the idea is also meant to preserve the legacy of leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah and Julius Nyerere.
The organisers have also contacted diplomats accredited to Uganda, including Kenya’s High Commissioner Ababu Namwamba, seeking support. The planned event reflects continuing interest in Odinga’s political legacy and in conversations about African solidarity, a theme that has long featured in regional political and civic debates.
