What the report says

Palestinians in Gaza are preparing to bury the remains of 105 people killed in an Israeli strike on Gaza City in October 2023, according to Al Jazeera. The article says the victims died in a series of air strikes on October 25, 2023, which brought down the seven-storey Al Taj 3 building and damaged other homes in the Yarmouk Square area.

The General Directorate of Civil Defence said the remains will be carried in a funeral procession with family members on Thursday and then buried in Sheikh Radwan cemetery, northwest of Gaza City. Al Jazeera reported that the recovery work was done with support from an Egyptian committee. A correspondent in Gaza City described it as the fifth-largest body recovery operation since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October 2023.

Civil defence officials said reaching the dead at the time of the attack was extremely difficult, and that heavy equipment used in rescue work was also hit. One man quoted in the report, Osama Sharaf, said 37 relatives were killed in the strike and that more family members had been recovered this week, including his parents and siblings.

The development underscores the continuing effort to identify and bury those killed in earlier attacks, while also highlighting the scale of destruction in densely populated parts of Gaza City.
