Pakistan top court orders ex-PM Imran Khan be moved to hospital from jail

What the report says
Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered former Prime Minister Imran Khan to be moved from jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within 48 hours for medical examination, according to Nile Post’s report citing the court order and BBC coverage. The three-judge panel said Khan should be seen by physicians and that an eye specialist should be involved in his treatment.
The ruling follows complaints from Khan’s lawyers and supporters about his health in custody. His legal team has said he has struggled to get specialist care and suffers from several conditions, including vision problems. The court also instructed that he be allowed weekly family visits and telephone calls with his sons.
Khan has been imprisoned since 2023 on corruption-related charges he says are politically driven. The article notes that he has faced multiple cases since leaving office, and that his detention has remained a major political issue in Pakistan, where he still has a large support base. The government had not publicly responded to the order in the reporting cited by Nile Post.
More broadly, the case reflects the continuing legal and political confrontation between Khan and Pakistan’s authorities, with his party warning supporters not to gather at the hospital during the transfer.
