OWC Leaders Urged To Strengthen Accountability, Promote Household Transformation

What the report says
Leaders of Uganda’s Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) have been called on to improve accountability in the use of public resources and to back investments that raise household incomes and support poverty reduction. Watchdog Uganda reported that the appeal was made in Kyankwanzi by senior Uganda People’s Defence Forces officers, including Maj. Gen. Henry Masiko and Brig. Gen. Mwanje Ssekiranda, during a meeting with OWC leaders.
According to the article, Maj. Gen. Masiko, speaking on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces, praised OWC for its role in national stability and development. He urged leaders to safeguard the values associated with Uganda’s liberation history and to pass them on to younger people, saying peace and stability help citizens pursue productive work and improve living standards.
The report also said officials linked the discussion to wider government programmes, including the Parish Development Model and the NRM Manifesto 2026–2031. Dr. Edward Katende called for stronger oversight and monitoring of the PDM, while Grace Bashaasha stressed institutional coordination and human development as part of national progress.
Brig. Gen. Mwanje encouraged OWC leaders and veterans to guide their children into the Presidential Industrial Hubs initiative, which offers practical training in trades such as welding, tailoring, carpentry and construction. The gathering in Kyankwanzi was described as part of a week-long effort to strengthen OWC’s capacity and improve delivery of government programmes.
