Over 650 families In Tororo left homeless after hailstorms

What the report says
About 700 families in Tororo Municipality, eastern Uganda, were left homeless after heavy rains and hailstorms swept through several villages over the past week, according to The Independent Uganda. The damage affected rooftops, homes and crop gardens in communities including Bison A, Bison B, Agururu, Rubongi and Water Village.
The report said some residents were staying with relatives, while others had no safe accommodation and were appealing for emergency support. Tororo District LCV Chairperson John Okea said the district was compiling damage reports to send to the Office of the Prime Minister in hopes of securing assistance. The storm also injured some residents and destroyed household property.
Residents described serious losses and uncertainty about where to stay. One affected resident, Johnson Osinde, said a wall collapsed on him when the storm struck. Another, Godfrey Busono, urged government intervention, saying many families lacked both shelter and money to repair their homes.
The article also placed the disaster in a wider regional context, noting calls for stronger government attention to disaster-prone areas in the Bukedi sub-region. A minister, Beatrice Akello Akori, was quoted urging local leaders to coordinate and formally present the concerns to central government. By the time of publication, the district was still assessing the extent of the damage.
