Over 230 Batwa, Neighbouring Residents Benefit from Free Health Camp in Kisoro

What the report says
More than 230 people from the Batwa community and nearby residents in Nyagakenke Village, Muramba Sub-county, Kisoro District, received free medical care during a health outreach held at Gahinga Batwa Village on Saturday, August 1, 2026. According to Nile Post, the camp was organised by Save Medical Centre together with the Rotary Club of Mgahinga Kisoro, the Rotaract Club of Mgahinga Kisoro and Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust (VSPT).
The outreach offered a broad package of services, including general checkups, treatment for common illnesses, preventive care, maternal and child health support, immunisation, nutrition assessment, dental and eye screening, counselling, referrals and health education. Organisers said the effort was meant to improve access to healthcare for vulnerable communities that may struggle to reach medical facilities.
Rotary Club of Mgahinga Kisoro president Sam Ndagije said disease prevention is a major priority for Rotary and linked health to wider community development. Save Medical Centre’s Evelyn Semarora said the team delivered the services with volunteer health workers. Local leader Geoffrey Semivumbi welcomed the outreach and said people living near the Batwa also benefit from such programmes without discrimination.
Batwa community leader Micho Nzabonimana said bringing care closer to residents helps elderly people and children avoid long journeys for treatment. The event highlights how local partnerships can extend basic health services to underserved rural communities in southwestern Uganda.
