USA Today reported that more than 12,000 pounds of bacon imported from Canada have been recalled in the United States after federal food-safety officials cited an import violation. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, the not-ready-to-eat smoked bacon products were shipped into the country without receiving required import reinspection, although the agency said they had undergone other inspections.

The recall covers about 12,036 pounds of Maple Leaf Foods bacon distributed to Grocery Outlet distributors and retailers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington, according to the FSIS notice cited by USA Today. The affected items are 12-ounce vacuum packages of Royale Natural Applewood Smoked All Natural Uncured Bacon with sell-by dates of Sept. 1 and Sept. 7, 2026, and TOP VALU Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon with sell-by dates of Sept. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7, 2026. The products were made on June 9, 10, 12, 13 and 15 and have “EST. 1” printed on the side of the package.

FSIS said there have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury linked to the recalled bacon. Still, the agency warned that some packages may remain in refrigerators or freezers and advised consumers not to eat them. Buyers are being told to discard the bacon or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
