Orioles Place Samuel Basallo On 10-Day IL - MLB Trade Rumors

What the report says
MLB Trade Rumors reported that the Baltimore Orioles have placed catcher Samuel Basallo on the 10-day injured list because of right shoulder inflammation. The club recalled outfielder Johnathan Rodriguez to fill the open roster spot. According to the report, Basallo exited Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros after one plate appearance and was first considered day to day before the move to the IL.
The injury leaves Baltimore short-handed at catcher because Adley Rutschman is also out with wrist inflammation. MLB Trade Rumors noted that the Orioles are expected to use Sam Huff and Chadwick Tromp behind the plate while the team waits for its regular options to recover. The report said there is no clear timetable for either Basallo or Rutschman, and Baltimore has no other catchers on its 40-man roster.
Basallo’s absence is significant for an Orioles team that had recently been playing well, including a seven-game winning streak before losing in Boston on Monday. The 21-year-old has been part of the middle of the lineup in his first extended major league opportunity, with a 108 wRC+ and 16 home runs, while also leading the team in plate appearances as designated hitter, per MLB Trade Rumors.
Rodriguez returns after a brief earlier stint with Baltimore. The report said he was acquired from Cleveland shortly after Opening Day and has a long track record of strong Triple-A production, including an .894 OPS across 314 games at that level. He could see time in the outfield or designated hitter mix while the Orioles adjust their roster.
