MLB Trade Rumors reported that the Baltimore Orioles made a series of roster moves Monday, placing catcher Adley Rutschman on the 10-day injured list because of inflammation in his left wrist. To replace him on the roster, Baltimore selected catcher Chadwick Tromp from Triple-A Norfolk, while outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. was designated for assignment to clear a 40-man roster spot.

Rutschman’s latest absence is significant for Baltimore because it is his third injured-list stint of the season, according to the report, after earlier time missed with a concussion and left ankle inflammation. The injuries have held him to 67 games, though he has remained productive when available, hitting .251 with a .331 on-base percentage and .433 slugging mark, along with eight home runs and 19 doubles in 284 plate appearances. MLB Trade Rumors noted that the Orioles have not announced a firm return timeline.

While Rutschman is sidelined, Samuel Basallo is expected to handle most of the catching duties, with Tromp and Sam Huff also available as Baltimore carries three catchers for now. Tromp, 31, has moved between the Orioles and Braves multiple times over the past two seasons. His major league offensive track record is limited, with a career .225/.232/.375 line across 208 plate appearances.

Martin’s stay on Baltimore’s 40-man roster was brief. MLB Trade Rumors said he had recently come over from the Royals after using an upward mobility clause in his minor league deal. He did not appear in a major league game for the Orioles. Baltimore now has a week to trade him, place him on outright waivers or release him.
