Oregon teacher fought school attacker before armed dad shot suspect 'multiple times'

What the report says
BBC World News reported that an Oregon elementary school attack ended when an armed bystander shot and killed the suspect after a teacher confronted him inside a special educational needs classroom. Police said the 16-year-old suspect, Griffin J. John II, had previously attended Silver Rail Elementary in Bend and opened fire on Thursday before being stopped. According to the report, the teacher tackled the suspect and tried to wrestle away his shotgun as children and staff were in the room.
The bystander, identified by family members to US media as Kaylub Giamanco, drove past the school and saw the shooting unfold. He then entered the building with a legally concealed handgun and fired multiple times at the suspect, who was later confirmed dead. Police said the suspect had roughly 44 additional shotgun rounds with him and may have fired as many as 15 shots inside the classroom. Investigators are still trying to determine how he got the weapon and what his motive was.
Police said four people were killed in the attack: a five-year-old child, two other students whose names have not yet been released, and 25-year-old teacher Meghan Lambert. Two more people were injured, including another teacher and a seven-year-old student. Officials credited the teacher and the armed bystander with preventing further deaths, while also noting the emotional toll such intervention can carry. The case has added to the wider debate in the US over school safety and access to guns.
