OpenAI launches ‘dots,’ personal AI assistant ‘built to handle everything’

OpenAI has introduced “dots,” an always-on personal AI assistant that the company says is designed to help users handle a wide range of tasks, including restaurant reservations and website design. Al Jazeera reported that the product was announced on Tuesday by the San Francisco-based company and is intended to work autonomously on a user’s goals around the clock.

According to OpenAI, dots are meant to be connected to more than 4,000 apps, including workplace tools such as Slack and Teams, so they can carry out actions on a user’s behalf. The company said the assistants are powered by its latest model, GPT-6 Astra, and described them as being “built to handle everything.” OpenAI also said the system includes added safety and privacy measures, including a read-only mode when the user is not present.

The launch comes amid intense competition in the consumer AI assistant market. Al Jazeera noted that Meta recently released Muse and Google unveiled Gemini Spark earlier this year. OpenAI’s announcement also arrives during broader debate over AI safety, with major technology companies facing pressure to show that their systems can be deployed responsibly.

Separately, the report said OpenAI and five other tech firms signed a voluntary accord on AI standards announced by US President Donald Trump, pledging internal controls and external auditing.
